A central
line or central venous line is another name for a central venous catheter. It
is a flexible tube that is put into a vein beneath the right side of the
collarbone and led to the superior vena cava, a big vein that leads to the
heart. A central venous catheter is used to administer various fluids, which
can then be conveniently administered into the patients' bodies. Intravenous
fluid, blood transfusions, and chemotherapeutic medicines are among the fluids.
In 2011, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued guidelines
for preventing intravascular catheter-related infections, which were updated in
2017.

– Restraints
Over the
projected period, the global central
venous catheter market is expected to be hampered by an increase in
central venous catheter recalls. For example, ICU Medical, Inc., a medical
technology business, issued a Class 2 device recall of heparin coated central
venous catheters in January 2020 due to the guidewire's inability to pass
through the needles included with the catheter kits. Furthermore, in January
2019, Arrow International Inc., a Teleflex Inc. subsidiary, issued a Class 2
Device Recall for the Arrow QuadLumen central venous catheterization kit
because the box had an inaccurate banner card.

– Regional Analysis
The global central
venous catheter market is divided into North America, Latin America,
Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa based on region.
The
availability of reimbursement for the central venous catheter is likely to
boost growth of the North America central venous catheter market over the
forecast period, making it the most competitive among regions. The following
table illustrates part of the reimbursement offered for central venous
catheters, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
in 2020.
