Polio virus vaccinations, sometimes known as polio vaccines, are a type of vaccine that is used to prevent poliomyelitis. Poliovirus is divided into three serotypes: type 1, type 2, and type 3. Different forms of polio vaccines are employed depending on the existence of different types of serotypes in different countries. Monovalent polio vaccinations are those that include antigen that responds to only one kind of poliovirus. Trivalent polio vaccines are resistant to all three forms of poliovirus, whereas bivalent polio vaccines are only resistant to type-1 and type-3 poliovirus. Poliomyelitis is a highly contagious poliomyelitis disease caused by the poliovirus. It's also known as infantile paralysis or polio. The virus is a single-stranded RNA virus that belongs to the Enterovirus genus.
Polio is mostly a disease that affects
children under the age of five. Up to 70% of all infections in children go
unnoticed, and about 25-30% of infections in children result in nonspecific
sickness with no clinical or biochemical indication of central nervous system
invasion. This has prompted organisations to focus on vaccines as a preventive
strategy to polio prevention, which is projected to propel the polio
vaccines market in the near future.
Polio Vaccines Market |
The Polio Vaccines Market is based on the fact that about 1% of polio
cases progress to paralytic polio, which causes paralysis in the spinal cord
(spinal polio), brainstem (bulbar polio), or both (bulbar polio) (bulbospinal
polio). According to the World Health Organization, one out of every 200
illnesses results in irreversible paralysis. When the respiratory muscles of
those who are paralysed become immobilised, 5 to 10% of persons who are
paralysed die. Statistics on the disease's prevalence are predicted to be one
of the most important factors driving the demand for polio vaccines.
