Acid reflux, which causes heartburn, indigestion, and stomach discomfort, is treated with antacids. They alleviate heartburn, which is a common symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease and indigestion. Antacid treatment is symptomatic and is usually prescribed for minor symptoms. Magnesium carbonate, aluminium hydroxide, and magnesium trisilicate are all antacids. Antacids have been linked to allergic responses in certain people. Magnesium-containing antacids can cause diarrhoea, whereas calcium- and aluminum-containing antacids can cause constipation. Long-term use can lead to kidney stones and raise the chance of developing osteoporosis. Alka seltzer, Gelusil, Milk of Magnesia, Maalox, Gaviscon, Mylanta, Rolaids, and Tums are all popular antacid products.
Antacid medications market taxonomy –
Formulation, Drug and Demographic
The Antacid
medications market is divided into several categories, including
formulation, drug, and demographic. The antacid drugs market is divided into
four categories based on their formulation: pills, capsules, suspensions, and
drops. The market for antacid drugs is divided into two categories based on
demographics: products for children and products for adults. Antacid drugs are
categorised as histamine-2 (H2) blockers, proton pump inhibitors, and pro-motility
agents based on the drug. Nizatidine, Ranitidine, Cimetidine, and Famotidine
are examples of H2 blockers. Rabeprazole, Esomeprazole, Lansoprazole,
Pantoprazole, and Omeprazole are proton pump inhibitors used to treat acid
reflux. Pro-motility drugs tighten the lower esophageal sphincter and minimise
reflux into the oesophagus by stimulating the muscles of the gastrointestinal
tract. Metoclopramide is a drug that is used to treat heartburn caused by GERD.
Global Antacid Medications Market –
Regional Outlook
The global
demand for over-the-counter antacid medicines is being fueled by a growing
tendency of self-medication for gastrointestinal diseases. The expanding use of
antacids in North America, owing to rising prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux
disease (GERD), is likely to result in a surge in demand in the region.
According to a research published in February 2016 by the American
Gastroenterological Association, about one-third of the population in the
United States suffers from GERD. According to a study published in June 2014 by
the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), the prevalence of
GERD increased at a rate ranging from 18.1 percent to 27.8% in North America,
8.7 percent to 33.1 percent in the Middle East, 8.8 percent to 25.9% in Europe,
2.5 percent to 7.8% in Southeast Asia, and around 11.6 percent in Australia.
